Olutola Majolagbe, our Head of Corporate Communications was interviewed on the ThisDay Newspaper, as she discussed the role TERAWORK is playing in the advancement of the freelancing economy in Nigeria.
She was asked some interesting questions, one of which was why TERAWORK was created. She answered this by highlighting the problem of unemployment, as well as the challenges and disappointments individuals and companies face when giving jobs out to people, as some of the reasons why TERAWORK was created. She was also asked about the response and acceptance so far, and she responded with how the idea of freelancing is gradually developing in people’s minds and reflecting in their daily activities. She illustrated this with the concept of the Gig economy, which is becoming more popular by the day – a situation or environment in which companies that have temporary positions contract independent workers or freelancers on short-term engagements; hours, days, weeks or a few months. She also talked about some of the challenges faced so far in the area of trust by our users, as people generally usually have reservations and some form of scepticism for online platforms. She, however, said that the platform has taken huge measures to ensure the security of transactions and safety of users’ information on the platform.
She was asked about the speed at which technology is evolving in Nigeria, compared to other parts of the world, and she stated that while Nigeria is not developing as speedily as some other parts of the world, we are making means to effectively manage the technological resources we have in order to efficiently apply them to solving problems within reach and make our lives better, hence TERAWORK.
She discussed how TERAWORK aims to grow the freelancing economy in Nigeria, the plans, preparations and efforts put in place to ensure an unaltered growth of the freelancing economy, considering the rate at which the market has grown in other foreign countries.
She also talked about how TERAWORK has been able to attract freelancers and clients willing to use their services, as well as how TERAWORK edges competitors with respect to service fees and charges.
When asked about the measures taken to ensure a high quality of service delivery from the freelancers on the platform, she made it known that TERAWORK freelancers are properly vetted and scrutinized before their work profiles become available to the public.
She then concluded the session by stating that TERAWORK aims to become the market leader in the African freelance space, and that a huge amount of effort is being made towards achieving that.
